Training and key learning opportunities at this year’s ACPO-APA International Policing Exhibition
An preview on ACPO-APA Summer Conference to give you a head start on what's going on, where be and what to see.
This year, the focus of the annual ACPO-APA Summer Conference is on ‘Protection, Safety and the Public’ with delegates and the most senior leaders of the police service set to debate future challenges confronting the police service such as public protection, organised crime, cybercrime and information sharing. The International Policing Exhibition, the UK’s largest showcase of police services and technology, will also reflect this theme in its free seminar programme, open to all police staff, associates and colleagues.
The extensive two-day knowledge-building programme will provide key-learning opportunities for members of police force involved in wide range of areas including:

• Mobile technology and Multi-Agency interoperability
• Career and training opportunities
• Community Safety and Public Security
• Information Sharing
• Digital Evidence
A key focus of the seminar programme will be on ‘Clearing the digital forensics backlog’ which will examine the increasing pressure on digital forensic experts to quickly identify and share the growing volume of digital evidence to help secure arrests to protect citizens and businesses. Dell together with the support from AccessData, EMC, Intel, Oracle, Symantec, Vega and others, will discuss a new approach to Digital Forensics, simplifying the complexities involved from imaging and ingestion to analysis and archiving of suspect data and information, providing a long term solution for managing the digital chain of custody. ‘Clearing the digital forensics backlog’ will take place on 3.00-3.45pm, Wednesday 8th July, Seminar theatre 1.
Going mobile
Mobile technology will be another focus of the seminar programme, with a study into the importance of tightening mobile security. Using examples from Vodafone's police customer case studies, Craig Wellman, Head of the Public Sector division at Vodafone will discuss the ways mobile technology can help the police to best achieve productivity gains without compromising security. Jason Masters, Chief Superintendent, Head of Corporate Development, Leicestershire Constabulary will highlight the benefits of Mobile Data in his seminar on Tuesday 8th July. Both these seminars will be suitable for anyone involved in the implementation and use of new technology. ‘Underpinning Productivity and Security with Mobile Technology’ 11.00-11.45, Thursday 9th July, Seminar Theatre 2 and ‘Delivering the Benefits of Mobile Data’ will take place from 2.00-2.45, Wednesday 8th July, Seminar Theatre 1.
Seminars
Several seminars will have their attention placed firmly on the public. There will be case study into the demanding journey Cambridgeshire Constabulary took to deliver an inclusive customer focused culture organisation wide – the speaker will bring alive the highs and lows of this journey and describe how other constabularies can make this cultural shift to make customer focused changes aimed at improving people engagement, and raising public confidence. ‘From process to people – how to make your organisation think customer in all its actions’ will take place from 1.00-1.45pm, Wednesday 8th July, Seminar theatre 1.
Other highlights include Keith Bentley, a retired Chief Superintendent from Greater Manchester Police presenting on making communities safer through the use of advanced statistical analysis and the National Policing Improvement Agency (NPIA Impact) will present on delivering the police national database. Making Communities Safer, 11.00-11.45am and Delivering the police national database, 1.00-1.45pm will both take place on Wednesday 8th July in Seminar theatre 2.
Alongside the free knowledge-building programme, the latest policing equipment and technology will be displayed from over 160 exhibitors in everything from command and control systems, special operations, surveillance and drug detection to forensics, protective clothing and career training.
